Kyoto walk Kennin-ji 京都歩き 建仁寺

建仁寺は12世紀頃、栄西によって建てられたお寺で、京都にある禅寺の中でも古いものです。

Kenninji temple was founded by Eisai in 12th century and it's one of the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto. 

この法堂の天井に描かれた双龍図は小泉淳作による作品で2002年に創建800年を記念して描かれた。

On the ceiling of Hatto, Dharma Hall there is the amazing painting of twin dragons by Junsaku Koizumi. This is for the 800 year anniversary of kenninji' founding.

Eisai said "大いなる哉 心や"

It means human heart is supposed to be free and generous. Over 800 years, this Zen temple keeps asking people to face yourself.
