注染 Chusen③

糊付けが終わったら晒しを重ねていく。角がしっかり合わないと柄が続かなくなってしまうからとても大事な行程。両手が思うように動かないから、職人さんの技術に感服！

Folding the cloths. To put the corners together is the most important point. If you miss it the patterns won't match. My hands didn't work as I thought I admire Shokunin's techniques!!

晒しの一番下と上に、捨て布と呼ばれる布を当てて晒しの染めムラを保護。捨て布は破れるまで何度も染められるので、よく見るといろんな柄が。

捨て布を含めて糊付けしたらおがくずをまぶして表面を乾かします。

On the top and the bottom of Sarashi-cloths, they use another layer called "Sute (throw away) Nuno (Cloth)". They were dyed so many times and used till they get worn out and ripped.

After putting glues on all the layers of the cloths, cover with sawdust to dry the surface.

いよいよ染め台の上へ。防水シートと、ゴム製のシートで模様の周りを囲って引圧がかかるような仕組みができます。

Staining table has a suction system using a waterproof paper and rubber sheet. When you step on pedals (there are two pedals on each side) extra liquids will be suctioned.

色を変えたいところを糊で囲んで色が混ざらないように。糊の境目に注染独特のにじみができる。

Circle the patterns with the glue to stain with different colors. The borders of the glue make the Chusen's specific "Nijimi-blurred stain"

ここまでできて、いよいよ染色！Finally we can stain the cloths!
